Welcome! I’m Katja, an equine and editorial photographer. In my early 20s I inherited a 1960s Miranda film camera and learned to see people with a more curious eye, to notice light and shadows, and to stop for sunsets, sunrises, and everything in between. I was hooked.

I started with snowcapped, Scottish mountains and snapshots of university life, and was quickly drawn to natural light photography and visual storytelling. My goal is to capture the story, with all of its unique curves and twists, to show the world the spark I see around me and through my lens. What this means for clients, is a picture that tells their story, wrapped up in all the emotion of those moments. And that’s how we come to horses…I’m a lifelong, horse-mad girl who became an equally horse-mad woman. I have a vivid memory of four year-old me falling in love with my great-uncle’s draft horse in the north of Germany. Photographic evidence shows the feeling was not mutual, but it set me on a path of loving every horse I met and being lucky enough to have a few in my life. The two worlds were always bound to collide.

When I’m not working with equestrians and their partners, I take outdoor travel and adventure photos. Contact me about editorial projects and licensing agreement options.

My background in the world of publishing and marketing led me to develop a roster of commercial clients early in my photography career. These clients range from local, family-run businesses to national and multinational brands - Subaru Canada, Woodbine Entertainment Group, Tapestry Equine Products, Sharpie, OshKosh B’Gosh, Martin’s Sweet Farm, are a few I’ve loved working with. It’s a pleasure to help tell a client's story, no matter the size of the company, and while my commercial book is limited, I’m happy to have a chat if a potential client feels we’re a match.
